I thought Matt channeled Jon, I found their humor, affection and serious so similar. Happy birthday Jon, doctor, and worse. Greatly missed. Great Doctor and an amazing personality. Such a brilliant portrayal of the Doctor he will be missed. When I started watching Doctor Who on PBS back in the 80’s he was the first Doctor I was introduced to. They were a bit wonky on continuity so they’d bounce from him to Tom Baker to the other Doctors pretty randomly so it was a bit difficult to understand what was going on but I’m glad I stuck with it. Pertwee’s storyline was one of the best though.

Being stuck on Earth was a great overarching thread. Pure brilliance. Jon brought a class and heroism to the character unexpected for the series. He was what Doctor Who needed when it was stuck with lower budgets and forced to defending Earth. But in the process, it created so much lore that Doctor Who leans on today. If it wasn’t for Jon we wouldn’t have the Doctor Who Tardis Cardboard Tardicorn shirt series we know today. I too share my birthday with Jon Pertwee. I only met him once from afar. But loved him as the Doctor and of course Worzel too. I only got to watch when visiting my grandparents in Scotland, and Jon Pertwee was really my first Doctor. Got me hooked and someone bought me a battery-operated Dalek. How cool was that? Best doctor of the pre-modern who, Matt smith for me was the best in the modern era. Pertwee was excellent. I met him when I booked his one-man show for a festival and he was such a gentleman and so interesting. He was my second doctor, after Tom Baker. And my second favorite after Tom.

I loved how dashing he was, not like the first two. I suppose you guys could always say happy birthday to me on what is been my 20th birthday and yes I know we share birthdays. I didn’t get to see his episodes till the late 90s, but he was a great doctor. watching new episodes From baker to young Jodie. They are all amazing talents.
