I enjoy my job but I also get a lot of questions regarding my ethnicity every day. It gets tiring to explain myself every single day. I don’t owe anyone an explanation of who I am. I was isolated from people because I mix when I was young and no one wants to play with me at the The One Where I’m Irish Shirt school or playground. But I get through that hard time in my childhood. I know that feeling exactly. Especially when I lost my dad and only mom live in as a minority and can not go back where you are coming from. I do hope people do kinds to each other cause we have only one life to live. People were angry and afraid. My dad is military, we kids learned fast never to say our last name as there were parts of Germany where we lived that didn’t like Americans. Just like in the USA, we never mentioned we were German because when it was found out, the name-calling of nazi and jew killers were inevitably not far away.

So, y’all want to say it isn’t the same? You are right and I said as much above. However, prejudices are the same. But, most y’all wouldn’t know how that feels since you probably never left the small space you are living in. Both of my parents are Ethiopian and I get asked often if I am mixed or how come I have a light shade but it is getting a bit annoying with time. I find it ridiculous how derogatory black people can be toward other black people just because they feel those with lighter skin are not black enough to lay claim to the The One Where I’m Irish Shirt culture! It is stupid! You saw it recently when a person of Caribbean descent was chosen to represent a singer of African descent. She got a whole host of abuse for not being black enough for the role. If you stop thinking race and use attitude you may be surprised how people would treat you a smile goes a long way it opens the mind and heart of others!
